Alisha MacLean

After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a minor in Women’s Studies from Carleton University, Alisha McLean decided to pick up and move to Whitehorse, Yukon to start her career.

Alisha worked as a news reporter and radio host for CHON FM where she spent two years working closely on issues affecting Indigenous Canadians. Her Canadian-focused lunch hour program Canadian Roots allowed her to travel to the 2009 Juno Awards in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she interviewed Indigenous artists including legendary singer and songwriter Buffy Saint Marie. Alisha also covered stories pertaining to missing and murdered Aboriginal women, the lasting impacts of residential schools on the territory, and the powerful resurgence of First Nations arts and culture within the Yukon.

After coming home to obtain her Bachelor of Education in 2010, Alisha returned to the Yukon where she coordinated various programs for at risk youth with the Yukon Government. Soon after, she became a certified trainer in the trauma-informed care model and now provides training to her colleagues on how trauma impacts development in youth.
